Everybody in the world is rejected each day. Your pastor chooses somebody else to sing the solo, your child doesn’t want to kiss you goodbye, or your idea falls on deaf ears. We are programmed to take rejection personally and most of us despise it.
In reality rejection is only feedback. Somebody is simply telling you they don’t want your offering. It’s no different than somebody saying yes to your offer… except with a rejection you don’t get paid. Whether you get a “yes” or a “no”, they both move the sale forward. You either work on fulfilling the project (if they said yes), or move on to another project (if they said no). If you are truly a professional, you’ll take this in stride but ask to talk with the customer and learn why they declined.
The real villain is indifference. If a prospect won’t give you an answer, you end up spending valuable time and effort with them when the truth is they’ll probably never pull the trigger and make a real decision.
One Moore Thing: An empty sales funnel or white space on a calendar amplifies your feeling of rejection. If your day is packed with activities and your funnel is full, rejection doesn’t occupy your thoughts.
